“Smiles” is a wonderful, high-energy tune for younger bands of any age to get started with “playing the groove,” although advanced players can take it as far as they like (listen to the pros on the recording!). A medium tempo, syncopated 8th note rhythm lays the foundation for a clear melody and relatively less challenging chord changes. The challenge is keeping it in the pocket!
